Rose-Marie Soncini, flute, was born in
Berne, Switzerland, where she received a
diploma with Highest Honors from the Conservatory
of Music and went on to study with Marcel
Moyse and James Galway. She has been a member
in the Municipal Orchestra of Metz, France,
and then in the Société d’Orchestre
in Bienne, Switzerland.
Since 1977 she has been principal flute with
the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in Palermo
with whom she often appears as soloist
and in chamber music concerts. She gave the
Italian premiere of Lukas Foss’ Renaissance
Concerto, the world premiere of the flute
concerto Peter-Peter Pan (2000) of Matteo
D’Amico and was a soloist at the XVII
Festival Nuova Consonanza in Rome.
She gives many recitals and chamber music
concerts for various Italian and Swiss concert
organizations. In 1990 she was invited as
a soloist at the National Flute Association’s
Convention in Minneapolis, and in 1992 and
1996 she toured the USA with different chamber
music programs from baroque to contemporary
music.
Since 1992 she plays in duo with Swiss pianist
Esther Flückiger, and they have done
several tours in Italy and Switzerland and
participated at the “2003 International
Festival of Women in Music Today Seoul”.
In 1997 she formed the “Duo Duende” with
Milan guitarist Maria Vittoria Jedlowski
who specializes in contemporary music and
in music of women composers. Since 1999 she
also works with Swiss pianist Hanny Schmid
Wyss.
She participated at the Women’s Music
Festival “Fra Nord e Sud” in
Rome, Berne and Milan in 1995, 1996, 1998
and 2000. She also played Vivaldi flute concertos
in Vivaldi’s church in Venice with
the “Putte Veneziane” (1995 and
1996), and had the opportunity to work with
the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice in
Venice. She has broadcast for the RAI in
Italy and the Swiss Radio DRS 2, and has
taken part in the CD “Le musiche delle
donne nel duemila” issued 2002.
